Steps to Success (STS) works to close the achievement gap for low-income youth in Brookline. STS students, most living in public housing, have us by their side from 4th grade through high school graduation. We develop the mutual goals of school success and post-secondary education, and work over time to make these achievable realities.
The results have been compelling. Before STS, as few as 30-60% of students living in Brookline public housing went on to college. Of our first three graduating classes, 87%, 85% and 92% in 2006, 2007 and 2008 entered higher education institutions. Most are the first in their family to go to college.
