College & Career

Steps is committed to supporting students beyond high school graduation, with programs and advising opportunities available to college students and recent Brookline High School (BHS) graduates.

Founded in 2009, the College Success Initiative is designed to address the unique challenges faced on campus by our students, the majority of whom identify as first-generation college students. In addition, Steps also supports alternative pathways to post-secondary success for our youth who are pursuing non-college pathways to meaningful careers.

College Success Initiative (CSI)

The College Success Initiative (CSI) reaches beyond the college application and admission process to ensure STS students receive the continued support they need to earn their degrees and pursue successful careers

Students in the CSI program are eligible for scholarships and direct financial assistance from Steps, as we work to bring down the cost of college and minimize student loan debt. If you are interested in supporting our CSI scholarships or student support fund, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

In addition to job-readiness and life-skills programming, CSI offers one-on-one campus visits, plus academic and financial advising sessions for the entirety of a student’s college enrollment.

Every June, recent BHS graduates participate in College 101 to learn how to effectively prepare for their first semester in college. Students meet with their CSI advisor, learn about CSI programming, and engage in activities that help prepare them for successful engagement in college life.

Career

Steps believes that post-secondary success can take many forms.

In addition to supporting college students through the CSI program, we also work with students seeking non-college pathways to successful careers. From assisting our students with trade school applications to offering financial support for students taking licensure exams, to connecting students with local organizations that can offer relevant and meaningful work opportunities, Steps works to serve all of our high school graduates as they build their own paths to success.
