Our Students
Steps serves 350 Brookline students from low-income families, with programs beginning in third grade and extending to college graduation.
Steps students are the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow, and our programs ensure that they have access to the same resources and opportunities as their peers. We believe that with a strong foundation, there is nothing our students cannot achieve.
While Brookline is one of Massachusetts's wealthiest towns, it is also home to stark income inequality.
Families who live in multi-million dollar homes live alongside families who live in public or subsidized housing. According to the American Community Survey, 9.8% of Brookline residents live below the poverty line.
Steps to Success was founded in 2001 to address disparities in educational outcomes between students from low-income families and their more affluent peers. For over 20 years, we have worked to close the opportunity gap in Brookline, helping over 5000 students find community, gain access to educational and work opportunities, and graduate from high school and college.
