Overview
Since 2001, Steps has supported the academic and professional journeys of more than 5000 students. While Steps has changed and developed over time, our focus has remained constant: to address and close the opportunity gap for low-income Brookline students through meaningful programs that begin at a young age and provide a strong support system, consistent academic and social-emotional growth, and a powerful sense of community for our students.
Today, Steps’ programs begin in 3rd grade and extend through college graduation, with opportunities for growth and engagement at every grade level. Programming for elementary and middle school students ranges from after-school programs, outdoor experiences, summer camp support, and a work readiness program beginning in 7th grade. At the high school level, students are supported in their journeys toward post-secondary success through personalized college and career counseling, the opportunity to participate in paid work experience programs, and leadership opportunities. Finally, our college-aged students are supported through scholarships, workshops, and networking events, as well as through our College Success Initiative advisors who offer guidance on topics ranging from financing college to finding community on campus.
