Who are Steps Students? 

By any standards, Brookline is one of the most expensive places to live in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  According to Zillow, the median home value in Brookline is over $1 million. While Brookline is one of Massachusetts' wealthiest towns, it also suffers from deep income inequality. People who live in multi-million dollar homes live amongst people who live in public or subsidized housing.

According to the American Community Survey, 12% of Brookline’s residents live at or below the federal poverty level. Meanwhile, the median household income in Brookline is $113, 515. According to “Understanding Brookline, A Report on Poverty” by the Brookline Community Foundation, poverty disproportionately affects people of color in Brookline.
